The governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has relieved an associate of Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Mrs. Uwaoma Olewengwa of her position as a commissioner in the present State Executive Council.
Hon. Olewengwa who has been a member of the State Executive Council since October 2019, until her sack was the Commissioner for Industry, Promotions and Development.
Olewengwa, The Nation reports has been Abaribe’s ally and local government Returning Officer in 2015 and 2019 general election for Abia South Senatorial Zone.
Information has it that Olewengwa’s nominations as commissioner in the state in 2019 and 2021 were through the effort of Senator Abaribe.
Sources within the government circle disclosed that Olewengwa’s replacement was long overdue as her loyalty to the Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu’s government has been under scrutiny since the no love lost between her boss and the governor of the state.
According to them, Ikpeazu was magnanimous to have allowed her to be part of his government until now.
The sources claimed that Olewengwa who has in the face of the political power tussle between her principals continued to visit Abaribe, has no choice than to make her stand known.
In a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Chris Ezem, notifying the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly of the nomination of Barr. Akujiobi Nkoro as Hon. Olewengwa’s replacement, which was sighted by our correspondent, the government couldn’t state reasons for her replacement.
But sources to Mrs. Olewengwa told our correspondent that the state government was selling a narrative that would massage their ego.
A source who pledged anonymity told our correspondent that the former Commissioner in a letter resigned her membership of the State Executive Council and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to defect to the All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA) because of her conviction of the political aspirations of her boss (Abaribe).
The source disclosed that Olewengwa resigned her position as a commissioner and member of the Abia State Executive Council on Sunday, December 18, adding that she personally handed over her resignation letter to the governor.
