Operatives of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Abia State Command, Umuahia, the capital of Abia State has sealed the Enyimba Filling Station and an expansive property located behind it, less than a Kilometer from the Osisioma Flyover, Aba, Abia State.
The action was sequel to a credible intelligence information which revealed that the said property housing many flats was being used for a range of illegal dealings in petroleum products.
Speaking to newsmen in Aba, the State Commandant Muhammad Hassan Sanyinna said “this discovery came as a result of sustained surveillance on the premises.
The worrisome trend on the activities of vandals is the attempt to take petroleum products business to residential buildings which is a more dangerous dimension than the battle at the Creeks.
Apart from using passenger vehicles to convey this product as against conventional trucks, the perpetrators now use residential buildings for storage and distribution which the Corps views as a dangerous development and has risen to fight it to a standstill
Commandant Hassan further said “this unpatriotic act of converting residential buildings to fuel Dumps with it’s attendant safety/fire outbreak concerns is among the latest strategies being adopted by vandals to beat security and remain in the illegal business but unfortunately for them, we have re-strategized.
The State Commandant seized the opportunity to thank the Commandant General- Dr.Ahmed Abubakar for his support to the Command which has enhanced her security services delivery to the general public.
He equally called on landlords and tenants to be weary of the activities of such economic saboteurs and report them to security agencies adding that their nefarious activities constitute danger to lives and property.
Meanwhile, seven (7) suspects who were arrested during the operation have provided useful information to the Command which will lead to more arrests.
Items recovered during the raid include trucks used in conveying the products, pumping machines, drums of adulterated petroleum products and generators.
Finally, Commandant Hassan assured that upon conclusion of investigations, the suspects will be charged to a Court of Competent jurisdiction for diligent prosecution.
