Abia State House of Assembly Plenary for Wednesday, 31st August, 2022
Welcome to another Legislative Day in the 7th Abia State House of Assembly.

The Speaker, Rt Hon Engr Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji led Principal Officers into the hallowed chamber.

Hon Stanley Nwabuisi, Member representing Ikwuano State Constituency led the opening prayer.

The Abia State House of Assembly commenced plenary after the adoption of Votes and Proceedings of Wednesday, 31st August, 2022.

In the absence of Petitions, Matters of Urgent Public Importance and Personal Explanation, the Speaker requested the Clerk to read out the next item on the Order Paper.
ORDER OF THE DAY

1. H.A.M. 19: Motion for the Immediate Government Intervention on the Devastating Gully Erosion Rampaging Ihenwekela Autonomous Community of Umuahia South Local Government Area sponsored by the Member representing Umuahia South State Constituency, Hon Jerry Uzosike.

2. Presentation of the Interim report of the Ad Hoc Committee on the withdrawal of Accreditation from the Abia State Polytechnic, Aba.

3. H.A.B. 59: The Abia College of Nursing Sciences (A Bill for a Law to Establish Abia State College of Nursing Sciences).

4. H.A.B.55: The Abia State Tele-Health Care Agency Bill (A Bill for a Law to Establish the Abia State Tele-Health Care Agency).
Items 1, 2, 3 and 4 were deferred to be considered on another Legislative Day.

Consideration of H.A.B. 23: A Bill for a Law to Establish the Abia State Commission for the Welfare of Disabled Persons.
COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE

In a motion moved by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon Solomon Akpulonu and seconded by the Minority Leader, Hon Chijioke Chukwu, the House dissolved to the Committee of the Whole for the purposes of considering H.A.B. 23.

After amendments and corrections of the pages, H.A.B.23: A Bill for a Law to Establish the Abia State Commission for the Welfare of Disabled Persons, was referred back to plenary as the House reverted back to full plenary after a motion moved by the Majority Leader and seconded by the Minority Leader.

At plenary, the Speaker reported proceedings from the Committee of the  Whole concerning H.A.B. 23 as deliberated upon including the corrections therefrom.

After going through the necessary legislative processes and subsequent approval of all the sections of the Bill, the House passed H.A.B. 23 into Law.

The Law is to be cited as “The Abia State Commission for Disabled Persons Law”.

Other Items on the Order Paper were deferred to be considered on another Legislative Day.

ADJOURNMENT
Hon Solomon Akpulonu, Majority Leader of the House, moved that plenary be adjourned to another Legislative day.

The Minority Leader seconded the motion.
