Couple, Two Children, Woman Die In Aba Ghastly Motor Accident
…As Doctors Battle To Save Two Surviving Family Members
A couple simply identified as Mr. and Mrs. Kelvin Uzuegwu has reportedly died in a ghastly auto-crash in Abia State.
The deceased couple, according to reports were indigenes of Olokoro in Umuahia South local government area of the state.
Also reported dead were two members of the family; their last child, Master Delightsome Uzuegwu that also died on the spot and their second daughter, Praise Uzuegwu who reportedly died at the hospital and a yet-to-be identified woman whom the couple were reportedly avoiding to hit.
This is just as the medical team at the Federal Medical Center (FMC) in Umuahia, the state capital have been working assiduously to save the lives of two members of the family who are on admission at the hospital.
It was gathered that the incident happened within the popular Osisioma junction on the Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway as the family were heading to Port Harcourt, Rivers State after attending a wedding ceremony in Umuahia, the state capital.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when a woman, who also died in the accident, was trying to cross the expressway and in a bid to avoid hitting her, Mr Uzuegwu tried swerving the car away from her but she eventually got hit while the car rammed into a stationary trailer thereby resulting into the fatalities.
It was however gathered that the Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji, apparently touched by the pathetic situation of the family, has requested the medical team of the FMC, to work assiduously and ensure that the two surviving children were revived and given adequate medical attention.
The Speaker was said to have already sent funds to FMC for the revival and treatment of the survivors and also called on public spirited Abians to join in coming to the aid of the children.
The Speaker who expressed shock over the sad incident condoled with the bereaved relations and their friends and said although he never knew the victims in person but he had to respond quickly when he was told about the incident by a concerned Abian.
The Chief Medical Director of FMC, Prof. Azubuike Onyebuchi said the medical team is doing everything possible to revive the first daughter who has remained unconscious while treatment for Divine, the first son, is going on with intensity.
He thanked the Speaker for reaching out and for sending funds for their treatment.
