The immediate past chairman of Abia State Online Media Practitioners (OMPAN) Association of Nigeria, Comrade Ugochukwu Nwankwo has dropped his journalism pen to join many Abians aspiring for an elective office in the 2023 general elections.
Comrade Nwankwo, an indigene of Nkpa in Bende local government area of the state is the candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) for Bende South State Constituency.
The YPP Bende South Constituency candidate while lamenting the under representation of his area, stating that his quest to go the House of Assembly goes beyond the courage to speak truth to power and to protect the interest of his people.
Comrade Nwankwo who prided himself of being a two-term legislative assistant between 2007-2013, stated that his experience as a legislative assistant brought him face to face with the most pressing need of his people.
The Bende born media consultant stated that there was the need for the employment and a positive engagement of young people in meaningful ventures, said that he has penciled down 10 Bills that would make life meaningful for the youths and checkmate rural-urban migration in his first term in office as Bende South State Constituency Lawmaker.

MY RESOLVE TO REPRESENT THE GOOD PEOPLE OF BENDE SOUTH STATE CONSTITUENCY IN ABIA STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY
My people, my family, my friends, I bring you greetings.
I apologize for keeping us in suspense for sometimes now, I needed to clear my head and bring you this great tidings!
We all know that representation the world over requires the courage and capacity to articulate and communicate the pulse and resolve of a people to the necessary authorities and also stand firm to defend their interests without fear!
When in Early 2021, my very bossom friend Hon. Ginger Onwusibe started the clamour for the Umunneato Governorship project in the House of Assembly, he made utterances that disparaged the whole Abia North as a zone and all his colleagues from the zone moped like statues until I challenged him, and things went haywire.
Ginger is one of the best Legislators of all times from Abia extraction. Our rift has since been settled and we are now best of friends.
Yet I had expected his colleagues of Abia North extraction, including the Deputy Speaker to speak up for the zone and people whose mandate each of them wields!
As an independent minded person just do an assessment of the crop of Assembly Members from Abia North, except one or two, you will notice that Abia North and in my case, Bende South has been underrepresented!
We cannot fold our hands and allow that to continue!
My quest to go the House of Assembly goes beyond the courage to speak truth to power and to protect the interest of my people, it goes deeper!
Serving as a legislative assistant between 2007-2013, brought me face to face with the most pressing need of our people today and even tomorrow, both the young and the old.
That need is the employment and a positive engagement of our young people in meaningful ventures!
I have penciled 10 Bills I will pursue in my first term in office. Bills that when passed into laws, will make life meaningful for the young people and also protect the aged of this state as they become weaker and retired!
I have a blueprint that will set up many young people of my constituency and make them self reliant and employers of labour without migrating to the urban areas, not empowering them with Motorcycles and Tricycles!
I have understudied agricultural programs that will be the launching pad for self reliance which I will vigorously pursue through my foundation as my personal project!
I will relentlessly sniff out job openings,wherever they exist, lobby and follow them up for the young people of my constituency.
Like the Leopard, I will not join the oppressors of the people as the Leopard never looses it’s spots, I will continue on the path I have blazed as an advocate of justice and good governance!
I am confident that I will not fail myself, my supporters and my immediate constituency, the youth constituency and Ndi Ikwuisii!
I know the hills of Ntakakwu, Okopedi, Ndiwo, Ubibia, down to Bende Town!
I have walked these paths!
I know the Highlands of Ezechi Ebulu, I know the planes of Ozuitem and Adjoining Uzuakoli, I was raised in Umuimenyi and they know me to my roots!
One thing about God is that he has not abandon anything he ever started half way and this project will never be an extension exception!
My confidence is that we have amassed enough goodwill through tiny kind acts that will serve as a lifebuoy as we sail through the elections to victory.
I know it’s not going to be an easy task, but each time I remember the words of Joshua and Caleb and their courageous stand, I am even more emboldened that we shall be victorious!
May I also inform us that I will be running with the flag of the Young Progressives Party – YPP, a party the young people of this state have found worthy and are converging in, ahead of the general elections!
