Abia Speaker’s Champion Newspapers Award: It Takes a Champion to Appreciate another Champion
By Jude Chijioke Ndukwe
Friday, June 3, 2022 was the day another highly reputable media organisation, Champion Newspapers Ltd, publishers of Daily Champion, honoured eminent Nigerians with awards for their indisputable records and towering achievements in different categories of public service.
Among those honoured were former military administrator of Lagos State and current Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Brig Gen Buba Marwa, Governor of Borno State, Prof Babagana Zulum, former Governor of Kano State and former minister of defence, Alhaji Musa Kwankwaso, the Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji MNSE, among others.
When a media outfit of the status of Champions Newspapers Ltd singles you out for an award, then it is because you have truly touched lives where it matters most as such outfits are not known for frivolities having been in the forefront of the struggle against military dictatorship in the nation’s darkest days, championed the enthronement of civil rule and have been promoting the ideals of constitutional democracy since its inception in 1988.
Should such a media house with formidable pedigree comes calling to present you an award in appreciation of your positive contributions to society, know that it is always well deserved.
This is the case when the Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji was presented with THE MOST OUTSTANDING SPEAKER OF THE YEAR 2021 award by Champion Newspapers Ltd at an epoch making event that held last Friday at the prestigious Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
From a newspaper company that once staked its all to enthrone democracy in Nigeria and has since been serving as a true watchdog of society, this award to the Abia Speaker is an incontrovertible seal of confirmation of the Speaker’s reputation as THE MOST OUTSTANDING SPEAKER IN NIGERIA based on verifiable quality legislations that are the hallmark of the 7th Abia State House of Assembly which he leads, and the many physical infrastructure and social amenities he has brought to the people as dividends of democracy. The people, communities, constituency and even beyond bear the plethora of evidence of Ikuku Oma’s Direct Touch Initiative ranging from quality motions, laws and effecttive oversight functions by the 7th Abia State House of Assembly under the leadership of Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, to the provision of electricity transformers, water boreholes, stadium projects, road projects to communities; free medical outreach, scholarships, start up capital and cash incentives, empowerment items, free ICT training etc to young entrepreneurs, students and school leavers; renovation of schools, remodelled Assembly complex to Abians as a whole etc, the Speaker’s imprints of selfless service to the people are indelibly etched with gold in the sands of time.
From the foregoing, it is easy to see why it takes a champion of public-spirited journalism like Champion Newspapers to recognise the quality leadership and people-oriented service of another champion of leadership and philanthropy in Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, and appreciate same with an award.
It is therefore only fitting for men of goodwill everywhere to give it up for the Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji MNSE for deservingly emerging THE MOST OUTSTANDING SPEAKER OF THE YEAR 2021.
He who the cap fits, let him wear it!
