The Prelate of Methodist Church, Nigeria, His Eminence Rev. Samuel Kanu has reportedly regained his freedom from his abductors.
There is no official information from the church at the moment as information about his release is still sketchy at the time of the report.
Our correspondent however gathered that the Prelate was released alongside others by their abductors about 6:30pm on Monday, 24hrs after his kidnap.
The Methodist Prelate, according to information, is in Owerri, the Imo State capital with the Bishop of Owerri Diocese who was kidnapped with the cleric and his Chaplain.
Earlier information has it that the abductors had demanded for N100m ransom for the release of the Spiritual Leader of the Methodist Church, Nigeria.
It was not clear if the authority of the church met their demands, but sources within the security agencies in the state said that they cannot confirm or deny the ransom payment.
The Methodist cleric and others that were kidnapped with him are said to be in good and stable health condition.
According to a source, security operatives in the state have been working tirelessly to ensure speedy and immediate release of the cleric and his companions after the news of their kidnap went viral.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Geoffery Ogbonna in a telephone interview confirmed the release of the Methodist cleric and others that were kidnapped alongside him.
According to Ogbonna, Rev. Kanu was released within the same Umunneochi Area where he was kidnapped by the abductors.
The Abia PPRO who stated that the speedy release of the Methodist Church Nigeria leader could not be unconnected with the efforts of men and officers of tactical units of the of the command and other sister security agencies, disclosed that security operatives are still combing the area in an attempt to nab the perpetrators.
