Former Governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has appealed to the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu to rehabilitate the ever-busy Umuahia-Uzuakoli-Akara-Alayi-Igbere- Item-Abiriba-Ohafia road that is in a deplorable state.

This medium can authoritatively report that a lot of armed robbery and kidnapping activities have been going on on the Umuahia-Uzuakoli-Akara-Alayi-Igbere- Item-Abiriba-Ohafia road in the recent times.
Sen. Kalu in a post on his facebook handle disclosed that despite that the road doesn’t fall under his senatorial role, he had appropriated about N1billion as part of the 2021 capital project, even though that the federal ministry of works is yet to take action on it.
On the insinuations that the road is a federal road road, Sen. Kalu said “Against certain insinuations, the road is a state road and not a federal road. Despite not falling into my senatorial role, I had initially appropriated One billion naira as part of the 2021 capital project but the Federal Ministry of Work is yet to take action on it.
The Senate Chief Whip while lamenting Abia State government’s negligence and inability to rehabilitate the road since he left office, recalled how he rebuilt and maintained the road while he was the governor of the state, knowing the economic importance of the road to the state and the people of Abia North extraction in p[articular.
“This is an appeal to my state Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu to consider rebuilding one of the important state roads in Abia: Umuahia -Uzuakoli-Akara-Alayi-Igbere- Item-Abiriba-Ohafia road.
“When I was Governor, I built the road and maintained it. Ever since I left, there has been no new investment on the road despite being one of the busiest roads in Abia.
