The Abia State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has commenced a two (2) day Programme aimed at subjecting Officers and Men of the Command to a mandatory Forensic Psychological Assessment and Evaluation.
Declaring the exercise open at the Command’s Headquarters in Umuahia, the state capital, the State Commandant of the federal government security agency, Mr. Ayinla Taiye Olowo said the exercise was in strict compliance to the directive of the Commandant General of NSCDC, Ahmed Abubakar Audi to all the NSCDC commands, to ensure that all Officers and Men of the corps under them undergo a mandatory Mental, Psychological, Emotional and Physical check.
Olowo stated that the essence of the test was to ascertain the behavioral tendencies and competencies for the overall professional conduct, efficiency and productivity of Officers and Men of the agency under the various commands in the country.
Speaking to Newsmen in Umuahia on the importance of the exercise, Commandant Olowo stated that the decision of the Corps to adopt the Forensic Behavioral Test was her determined efforts to end the devastating effects of “Accidental Discharge” among the arm bearing Personnel of the Corps.
“Due to the importance of the exercise to the arm bearing Personnel of the Corps, the Commandant General has not only made it regular but henceforth a prerequisite for recruitment into the organization.
“It is therefore pertinent to state here that the essence of the exercise is for the overall well-being of the Officers and Men of the Corps on one hand and the safety of the good Citizens/residents of Nigeria and enhanced productivity on the other.
“Again, a comprehensive follow-up action to handle any identified area of psycho-social needs among Officers and Men for appropriate and timely intervention to forestall further mishandling of fire arms and related operational equipment that could pose threats to lives and property.
