The Abia State Commissioner of Police, CP Janet Agbede on Friday commissioned the newly built operational headquarters of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Aba North Local Government Area of the state with a promise of the command’s commitment to rid the state of criminal elements.
CP Agbede who noted that the role the RRS play in the command’s fight against criminality in the state cannot be overemphasized, said that she was satisfied with the successes the team have recorded over the period of her leadership as the Commissioner of Police.
The Abia State Police boss while noting that a good environment attracts good service delivery, charged officers of the RRS to be professional in the discharge of their duties.
The Abia State Police Boss recalling her visit to the RRS in their makeshift office and detention facility said “After my visit to the RRS on resumption of duties as the Police Commissioner in the state, Johnbull called me. He told me that he has a dream. He said that he wants to erect a befitting office structure that will stand as RRS office. I prayed for him and also wished him well in his dream.
“While he was executing the project, he calls and tells me his challenges. What we are seeing today was actualized in a record time. Most probably, the dream of SP Johnbull Obioguru and his team. This ultra-modern edifice was not only completed in record time, but without any oral or written petition from any quarter.
“This structure is built for police service delivery and I am proud to tell you that a good environment generates a good service.”
She thanked those that stood by the RRS team in ensuring that the project was not just completed, but at a record time.
The Governor of the state, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu who was represented by the State Commissioner for Homeland Security, Sopuruchi Bekee commended the RRS for the important role that they have been playing in ensuring that crime was reduced to the barest minimum in the state and pledged the continued support of the state government to the team and the police command in the state.
“I must commend the Commissioner of Police, the ACP in Aba and other senior police officers for the good work that they are doing in Aba and Abia State. We are all from this area and know what is happening in other states and we can be assured that the CP is a workaholic.
“Security is everybody’s business. Intelligence comes from the public and that is the most essential way you can support the Nigeria Police because they are the frontline security agency and therefore needs our massive support. Be friendly with the Nigeria Police and you will get to where you want to go.”
Earlier in his address, the RRS Commander, SP Johnbull Obioguru disclosed that the edifice was actualized through a joint efforts of members of the public.
SP Obioguru said that it was the same love and commitment of the Aba residents that saw them through the project that has in his words, “has held together, the strings of security in Abia State, despite the upsurge in crime currently being witnessed in the southeast.”
The RRS Commander while assuring that the tactical outfit were committed to combating and preventing crime in all its forms in the state, stated that the project stands as a reflection of the resolve and promise of the RRS command to overrun crime in the state under his watch.

The event which witnessed an award of recognition to the Commander of RRS by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Usman Akali Baba through the Abia State Commissioner of Police, CP Janet Agbede also had some members of the public, especially those that played huge role in the completion of the project being honoured for their support to RRS and the State Police Command as well.
