Abia State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says that it arrested four persons in Umuahia, the state capital for vandalizing public property.
The Spokesman of the command, Aguiyi Ndukwe, the spokesman of the NSCDC, Abia State speaking on the behalf of the state commandant of the federal government agency; Mr. Ayinla .T. Olowo while confirming the arrest of the suspects disclosed that they were arrested over what he described as “Willful destruction of public infrastructure.”
Ndukwe in an interview with our correspondent gave the names of the suspects as Moses Ofor (38), an indigene Ohobo Afaraukwu-Ibeku in Umuahia North LGA, Michael Anthony also from the same Ohobo Afaraukwu-Ibeku and one Maduabuchi kalu (25), an indigene of Asaga in Ohafia local government Area of the state. and another member of the gang whose identity could not be ascertain at the time of filing the report.
The suspects according to the NSCDC spokesman, were arrested at the premises of uncompleted Estate at the old Timber shed market located along old timber road.
He said that the suspects were arrested based on an intelligence after an informant had alerted the command of the activities of the suspects in the area.
The three suspects were said to have been caught as they were demolishing structures in the estate, excavating iron rods of the said demolished buildings and other fittings with the intent to sell them to willing buyers.
Ndukwe stated that the suspects have been on the watch list of the agency, adding that the said estate have been declared a black spot following several reports all manner of criminal activities being perpetrated by some criminal and unscrupulous elements that have converted the uncompleted estate as their hideout for various criminal activities.
The State Commandant warned miscreants that use the estate and other uncompleted buildings as their hideouts vacate from them or be ready to face the consequences of their actions.
Exhibits including hammers and Iron rods which were in the custody of the NSCDC.
The suspects who claimed that they were contracted by some unnamed individuals to pull down buildings in the estate confessed selling some of the excavated iron rods to buyers and builders within the Afaraukwu community.

Investigation into the matter was still going on at the time of filing the report as the NSCDC Abia Commandant stated that they would be charged to court as soon as investigation into the matter was concluded.
