Reports from the Abia State Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have vindicated the personnel of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in the state of raping a female student of the Abia State Polytechnic which sparked off Thursday’s protest on Aba-Owerri Expressway by the students of the state institution.
Recall that a student of the Abia State Polytechnic who was later identified as one Chidinma Ihekanma, a 20-year-old 200 level student of the polytechnic was reportedly raped by a yet-to-be identified police officer after she was illegally arrested at New Heaven student Lodge located off Nicholas Street, Aba.
Reports have it that the said randy police officer who has been identified as CPL Nwachukwu Chinedu, serving under the Eziama Police Station, under Aba Area Command had gone to the said lodge on that fateful day with his colleagues dressed in black and black in a Sienna SUV, where they arrested three personns (two girls and a boy) and drove to their station near the popular Aba River (Waterside) for no offence.
It was gathered that the police officers on getting to their station, told the students that they were going to bail themselves with the sum of N20, 000 each.
Miss Ihekanma, an indigene of Isuikwuato local government of the state, according to investigation, told the police officers that she doesn’t have that kind of money.
It was gathered one of the police officers who is tall, black in complexion commanded the two others students to go, while she was asked by the same policeman to enter the same sennia car that they were arrested and brought to the station with.
The policeman was said to have driven her to a building suspected to be a hotel around Nigeria Breweries road Aba, some distance away from their station, where he was said to have forcefully raped her.
The helpless lady was said to have been driven to brass junction, some distance to both her school and lodge at about 11pm Wednesday.
Sources around the victim said that she managed get to her lodge with pains she sustained in her private part during the alleged rape.
Sources disclosed that the painful part is that the girl lost her virginity in the hands of the randy police officer.
It was learnt that the unrepentant police officer, threatened to kill the victim after others arrested alongside her had left.
Some residents of the area while reacting on the incident said that the invasion of the lodge and arrest of others with the rape victim was a ploy by the police officer to make it look as if they were acting on intelligence while his target was the female student whom he may failed on several ocassion to woo over to himself.
“We learnt that they demanded for N20, 000 from the students which they didn’t give them. Why were they quick to release others and hold her back? Didn’t you see that was something fishy in their actions?”
Though the Public Relations Officer of the Abia State Command of NPF, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna could not respond to a chat message to his WhatsApp number, the Commissioner of Police, CP Janet Agbede in a press a statment signed by Ogbonna, expressed regret over the disgraceful act allegedly committed by CPL Nwachukwu Chinedu.
