Obinna Ichita's SUV Smashed By Hoodlums During The Attack In Aba

Many residents and shop owners on Port Harcourt Road who had come out en mass to participate in the Wednesday’s town hall meeting called by the member representing Aba South State constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly; Hon. Obinna Ichita in Aba, the commercial nerve of the state on Wednesday sustained various degrees of injuries as sponsored thugs abruptly ended an ongoing town hall meeting summoned by Hon. Ichita.

Hon. Ichita is an All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) lawmaker who has refused to be intimidated by the numerical strength of the ruling party (PDP) and major opposition party in the state, APC (All Progressives Congress)It was not yet clear where the youths came from, but sources within the Port Harcourt road area disclosed that the youths that arrived the venue in five mini buses went after the lawmaker, but luckily for Ichita, he took off for safety with the mobile policemen with him on sighting them alighting from the buses.

Infonet9ja.com gathered that some members of the Aba Federated Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists who were at the venue to cover the town hall meeting were not spared by the thugs who used various dangerous weapons to attack them.

The Aba South State constituency lawmaker in his speech, accused the state government of abandoning roads in his constituency, adding that there are no good roads in Aba South.

Ichita at the town hall meeting, gave the state government a seven day ultimatum which after expiration and nothing was done by the state government, he members of the state constituency will mobilize his constituents to protest over the poor state of roads in the area.

Addressing his supporters after the melee, Ichita assured that the incident would not deter him from demanding what is due to his constituency.

“In his words; “We were not violent, we didn’t fight anybody and we were very peaceful.

“Not long ago, they came here to attack me and my constituents.

“Before now, I had already informed the world that there is a threat to my life.

“I have petitioned the National Secretary Adviser, I informed the Commissioner of Police, I also informed the Director of State Security.

“We were just having a town hall meeting and they came and attacked us and destroyed our vehicles. Thy carted away our valuables.

“My vehicle has been destroyed. We had a resolution that we are giving the state government seven days ultimatum to fix roads in Aba South constituency.

“After seven day, we will embark on protest in Aba.
