A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in the just concluded PDP primaries in Awka, Anambra State, Chief Obiora Okonkwo has reportedly resigned his membership of the party.
Recall that the tree dominant political parties in Anambra; APGA, PDP and APC have been enmeshed in various forms of crisis arising from their primaries which is threatening not just the internal peace of the parties, but their chances of winning the Nov. 6 gubernatorial election in the state.
On reasons for leaving the PDP, Okonkwo said that he was leaving the PDP because of unresolved Court cases in the party and went further to accuse the PDP for not practicing what he described as “real democracy”.
Okonkwo, who is also the Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines (UNA) is rumoured to be heading to Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) where he thinks that he has the chance of pursuing his gubernatorial ambition.
According to information reaching infonet9ja.com, Okonkwo who is optimistic of becoming the successor of Gov. Willie Obiano after Nov. 6, in a letter of resignation addressed to National Chairman of PDP on July 24, Okonkwo said his decision was final.
The business mogul further stated that he had as well written to his ward chairman in Ogidi, Idemili North local government area of Anambra State.
Okonkwo was one of the 16 governorship aspirants that contested the primary for the PDP ticket on June 26, 2021.
