Members of the 7th Abia State House of Assembly have unanimously passed “The Abia State Audit Bill, 2021”; H.A.B 41 into law.
The bill which has now become a law was sponsored by the Majority Leader of the State Assembly and lawmaker representing Obingwa East State Constituency, Hon. Solomon Akpulonu.
According to Akpulonu, the sponsor and initiator of the then Bill, the bill when becomes a Law will Provide for the Appointment of the State Auditor-General and the Auditor-General for Local Governments in Abia State.
Recall that after explanations from the Obingwa East Constituency lawmaker, after speaking about the importance of the Bill at the floor of the House, the Bill was committed to the Committee of the Whole for further legislative processes.
The House of the Whole, after consideration of the Bill and in a motion moved by the Majority Leader, and seconded by the then Minority Leader; Hon. Abraham Oba, member representing Aba Central State Constituency, the House reverted back to full plenary.
In reporting what transpired at the Committee of the Whole, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Engr. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji said, “After having passed through the necessary legislative processes, we can comfortably delete the word “Bill” and insert the word “Law” into the provision.
“Honorable Colleagues, this Law might be cited as ‘The Abia State Audit Law’ and shall come into force this Day, 28th of June, 2021”, he concluded.
