Imo Governor Receives Onions Dealers

The governor of Imo State, Sen. Hope Uzodinma on Friday played host to the leadership of National Onion Producers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria (NOPPMAN).

NOPPMAN led by its national president, Alhaji Aliyu Maitasimu Isah was received by the Governor of Imo State, at the Government Chambers in Owerri, Imo State capital.

The visit, it was gathered couldn’t have been unconnected with the current incident that stopped the onions dealers from moving their goods from the North to the East.

This medium authoritatively gathered that since the onions dealers stopped moving their produce to the southeast, one of the major consumers of the produce, the traders have suffered more loss as there were no storage facilities for the perishable goods.

Gov. Uzodinma who sympathized with the traders over the recent incident that led to the loss of theor produce in the state in a facebook post wrote “I hosted a delegation of the National Onion Producers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria (NOPPMAN) in my office led by their National President, Alhaji Aliyu Maitasimu Isah.

“I sympathized with the association on account of the unfortunate loss of lives and businesses during the recent security breaches which rocked the state.

“I assured them that Imo State is now safe for all genuine businesses to thrive irrespective of the tribe, class or religion. We have a duty to ensure that every Nigerian in the State is protected.

“In line with the group’s appeal for compensation for goods which were destroyed, I pledged to set up a committee to workout modalities and cushion the losses of members whose goods were affected. 

Furthermore, I called for a united front against the common enemies that seek to divide us, urging them to continue to partner with the State Government and the local authorities for the peace and progress of their host communities.”
