Breaking: Armed robbery, kidnap suspects escape from Police detention

Security agencies are said to be working round the clock in Calabar, Cross River State to unravel the circumstances behind the weekend security breach in the state on Sunday.

Information that emerged Monday morning in Calabar, Cross River State has it that some yet-to-be identified kidnap and armed robbery suspects detained at the headquarters of the Nigerian Police, Cross River State Command on Sunday night reportedly escaped from custody.

Information has it that residents now live in fear of possible mass arrest and harassment of residents and indigenes by the security agencies.

The escape of the suspects from the police detention facility was confirmed on Monday by the state Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Ugbo.

The number of the suspects gathered to have escaped from custody were 19 suspects, but  Ugbo insisted only three suspects escaped.

She said, “Only three escaped. Two of them were gunned down while one was rearrested.

“The girlfriend of one of the suspects procured the saw which was used to cut the lock before they escaped.”
