Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother raises alarm over army presence in Afaraukwu community

The younger brother of the Leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB,  Mazi Nnamdi Kanu; Prince Emmanuel Kanu on Wednesday raised alarm over alleged presence of military personnel patrolling their Isiama Afaraukwu Umuahia community in Umuahia North Local Government Area of the state.

Prince Kanu in a telephone interview claimed that the presence of the soldiers who he claimed to have patrolled the community for hours threw members of the community into a panic mood.

According to younger Kanu soldiers the presence of the soldiers who equally passed through their house heightened the fear of residents and their kinsmen who feared that the soldiers could be carrying out surveillance on their compound.

Although he said nobody had so far been arrested at the time of filing the report, Prince Kanu however said that they were not comfortable with the presence of the military in the community that is yet to recover from the shock and trauma of 2017 invasion of the community by soldiers; where several lives were claimed to have been lost during the invasion.

“We don’t want what happened at Lekki to happen again in our community”, Kanu warned.

He called on the military authorities in the state and the country not to deploy soldiers to the peaceful community to avoid intimidation and harassment of innocent residents and indigenes.

In a telephone interview, a source at the 14Brigade Headquarters who spoke anonymously dismissed the claim by Nnamdi Kanu’s brother and questioned why younger Kanu is agitated on sighting the presence of soldiers who were carrying out their legitimate duties.

The source who urged members of the community and public to go about their lawful businesses, assuring them of their full safety said that it is only someone that has skeleton in his or her cupboard will be agitated and started raising what the source described as “unnecessary” alarm when no one is after his or her.
