Body of nine-year-old boy recovered hours after drowning in Aba gutter

The body of a nine-year-old boy who was drowned at Ama Ogbonna in Aba, the commercial nerve of Abia State has been found.

Our reporter gathered that the incident occurred during a torrential rainfall that saw most of parts of the commercial town overtaken by flood.

Another source who spoke to our reporter identified the mother to the deceased as a petty trader around Ogbonnaya road, adding that the body of the deceased has been taken home for burial.

“It was in the process of getting out the slippers of a customer that fell into the gutter that the body of the boy was discovered.

“The father later came with a Ghana Must Go Bag which they took the body of the dead boy away to their village for the burial of the boy,” said the source.

Information gathered around the scene of the incident has it that the effort by those around to rescue the boy not mind the dangers of such a mission failed as they were unable to trace the body of the boy.

Narrating the incident, a source who claimed to have witnessed the unfortunate incident said “I was in the house when I started hearing shouts of people outside. I rushed out only to behold a crowd searching for a boy that was said to have drowned in the gutter while it was raining heavily.

“We brought a ladder and searched the gutter, but we couldn’t see him. We even went further to check if his body could have been washed off to the other end of the gutter, but we couldn’t find it. We equally searched throughout the night, but we couldn’t succeed.”
