A businessman in Aba, the commercial nerve of Abia State who was identified as Mr. Eke Eleanya has reportedly regained freedom two days after being abducted by unknown gunmen.
Eleanya, an indigene of Ohafia Local Government Area of the state was said to have been abducted in front of his residence located at Ngozi Avenue off Faulks road in Aba North LGA by a three-man gang of armed men.
Eleanya, from the information gathered, reportedly paid the sum of N1m ransom before he could regain his freedom
It was gathered that the gunmen had laid ambush in front of Eleanya’s residence, where they picked him to an unknown destination.
A source within the security agencies in the state who spoke to our reporter over the matter said that the kidnappers may have instructed him and members of his family not to attempt involving the security agencies which gave way for them (kidnappers) to have the leeway to collect the ransom before releasing their victim.
“The man is a major importer of textile materials in Aba. He has his shop around St. Michaels or Hospital road, but lives at Ngozi Avenue where they laid ambush and picked him up while he was about entering his house on the fateful day of his kidnap.
“We got the information about his kidnap through intelligence. We swung into action and were trailing them.
“We suspected that the kidnappers may have warned the family not to get the security agencies involved, which is their usual method of operation.
“The family didn’t report the matter officially, but we were tracking them, until we lost track of their movement.
“The next thing that we heard was that the man had regained freedom two days after he was kidnapped.
“From what we have been able to get, the man paid ransom of about a million naira before they could release him,” the security source disclosed.
Eleanya who is popularly known as Mbakwe is said to be admitted in a private hospital where he is receiving medical attention on injuries sustained in the hands of his abductors.
