A 45-year-old man identified as one Maduabuchi Ijioma is reportedly being investigated by Abia State Command of the Nigeria Police Force for allegedly raping a 5-year-old female neighbour.
The incident is said to have occurred at No. 75 Onyemaechi Street, off Agu Road, Aba South Local Government Area of the state.
Sources within the area who disclosed that suspect, an indigene of Okpoko, Ozuitem in Bende Local Government Area of the state is a truck pusher took advantage of the absence of the disabled parents of the victim from home to have carnal knowledge of their daughter.
According to reports, the deaf and dumb parents of the victim relies on the proceeds they got from petty business and alms begging to feed.
It was gathered that the little girl has been going to the apartment of the suspect to watch television even when her parents were at home.
Sources had it that Maduabuchi on that fateful day gave the little unsuspecting girl N50 to go and buy groundnut and upon her return from the errand, the ‘trusted’ neighbour forced himself on the poor girl.
Information has it that Maduabuchi was married with kids, but later sent the wife and children packing after some series of squabbles.
It was gathered that the matter was later reported at Ndiegoro Police Division, under whose jurisdiction the incident happened.
The police, acting on the report made at the station by the couple was said to have arrested and later detained Maduabuchi.
The Divisional Police Officer, Ayang Alphonsus couldn’t be reached for comments as he was said to have been out for an official assignment at the time of our reporter’s visit.
A police source in Aba Area Command, who pleaded not to be named, told our reporter that a case of rape/defilement was reported at Ndiegoro Police Division on June 1, by the parents of the victim who gave their names as Mr. and Mrs. Wisdom Amaechi of No. 75 Onyemaechi Street, off Agu Road against one Maduabuchi Ijioma of the same address.
The police source who corroborated the account of sources in the area said that the suspect on interrogation admitted committing the crime.
The source who disclosed that the suspect committed the crime about 4:00 pm on that fateful day stated that in the course of the investigation, they discovered that the suspect was in 2011 arrested and detained at the Central Police Station, Aba for the same offence.
