Operatives of Special Anti-Robbery Squad, under the Abia State Police Command, have reportedly rescued two kidnapped victims in Aba, the commercial nerve of the state.

This is coming three days after a female staff (Chinenye Iwuoha) of the Federal Radio Corporation (FRCN); Pacesetter FM, Amakanma in Umuahia South LGA was kidnapped by gunmen at Amakanma Estate while she was returning from work in the company of other staff including the General Manager of the Station, Mr. Uche Ndukwu.

Infonet9ja.com gathered that the victims were kidnapped simultaneously at Amauzo, Okpolu Umuobo community off Aba-Owerri Expressway, Osisioma Local Government Area of the State.

The Abia Commissioner of Police, Janet Agbede, in a telephone interview on Saturday, confirmed the rescue of the victims, adding that the Police was still on the trail of the hoodlums.

It was gathered that the hoodlums had on Wednesday 7th May 2020 at about 10:00 pm abducted the victims along Okpulo Umuobo road, near Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint Church, some distance away from the popular Glass Industry road junction.

The victims identified as Nwankwo Chinedu (male) 42 years and Ndukwe Agu (male) aged 48 years were both abducted at different hours along the Okpulo Umuobo road as they were going home.

Sources said that the commissioner of Police, CP Janet Agbede got intelligence that the kidnappers moved the victims to their hideout at Amauzo Okpolu Umuobo community, Osisioma Council area.

The CP was said to have detailed SARS commander in Abia, SP Johnbull Obioguru, and the C.T.U. men to fish out the criminals and rescue their innocent victims.

It was learnt that while the gang were on their way to come for the third operation, they ran into the SARS team who were on stop and search operation on the road and on sighting the police, they engaged them in a gun duel.

It was learnt that the SARS Commander with his team while tracing the blood and the direction of the car, stormed the kidnapper’s hideout which happens to be the home of one of the kidnappers and rescued their victims.

It was learnt that the scampering of the villagers on the sight of the combine team of Police personnel; SARS and C.T.U officers, alerted the hoodlums of police presence in Amauzo community.

The hoodlums, was said to have regrouped, armed themselves and engaged the SARS team in a gun duel.

Information has it that though the hoodlums had superior firearms, they were, however, overpowered by the police team, causing them to abandon the victims in their hideout and took to their hills.

During the gun duel with the hoodlums, two of the criminals sustained gunshot injuries and escaped with it.

Recovered from the criminal’s hideout is a Tecno cell phone suspected to belong to the hoodlums, and an RX 350 Jeep, 2017 model belonging to one of the victims.

At the criminal’s hideout, the police arrested wife to one of the criminals, who is a nursing mother and also living in the same building where the kidnappers kept their victims.

Information Saturday night has it that one of cars, a Lexus 300 car, belonging to one of the victims was recovered by the Omoba Police Division and now in the custody of SARS in Aba.
