A Policeman identified as Inspector Sunday Daniel has reportedly brutalized a cameraman; Thompson Nsisiongabasi, attached to an Umuahia based media house, AFNews (Abia Facts Newspaper).
AFNews Nsisiongabasi was said to be on his way to work from the Ahiaeke axis of Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene Expressway when he was attacked by a police team who accused him of recording their face-off with a sister security agency in the state; Civil Defense officers at the junction.
Nsisiongabasi had denied such allegation, stating that the phone which was inside his pocket had no energy as he couldn’t charge it the previous night.
A release from the Media outfit Tuesday has it that the team of Police officers led by one Inspector Sunday Daniel descended on its staff even when he identified himself as a staff of the media outfit.
The beating was said to have left the media house staff with several bruises and bloody nose and his clothes torn.
According to Mr. Emenike Iroegbu, the CEO of the media outfit, the police officers also collected “his dead phone and seized it”.
Mr. Iroegbu stated that when a superior officer arrived the scene, his staff approached the said officer and narrated the incident.
The said Inspector Sunday Daniel though acknowledged beating the media outfit’s staff, he, however, denied collecting Mr. Nsisiongabasi’s phone.
It was gathered that the matter was reported to the World Bank Police Station under jurisdiction the incident happened.
The injured staff was later referred to the Abia State Police Clinic in Umuahia for treatment and other medical attention.
Investigation has it that the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Geoffrey Ogbonna has stepped into the matter with the aim of recovering the missing phone.
But AFNews management who apparently are not happy with the injury inflicted on their staff in the release demanded that the said Inspector Daniel should be brought to book for his “dishonourable” actions.
