Anambra begins fumigation of markets across the state

Anambra state government has commenced fumigation of sixty-three markets across the state as part of measures to fight against the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the state.

Flagging off the exercise at the Onitsha Main Market, the Commissioner for Trade and Commerce Mr. Uchenna Okafor said the choice of Onitsha main market for the flag off is symbolic as the market remains the largest market in the West African region.

Honourable Okafor said state government places a high premium on markets as one of the institutions in the state, noting that the state is winning the war against covid- 19 hence the initiative to embark on the exercise across major markets in the state.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Health Dr Vincent Okpala, said the fight against covid-19 is every body’s responsibility and commended the state government for the proactive measures initiated to prevent the virus as well as Ndi Anambra for compliance to safety directives.

He said the fumigation exercise will not only address the covid-19 pandemic but also Lassa fever being experienced in some parts of the country.

In a remark, the ASMATA president General Chief Ikechukwu Ekwegbalu assured the state government of cooperation and support.
