The Abia State government has commenced construction work on the road leading to the palace of the late Eze Israel Okwu Kanu; the father of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
HRH Eze Israel Okwu Kanu and his wife, Ugoeze Sally Meme died in 2019 at the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Umuahia and German hospitals respectively, an incident, the Kanu’s and people of Isiama Afaraukwu have described as shocking and too hard to believe that they would lose two pillars of the Kanu’s family within the space of two months.
Recall that the Kanu’s through their representative, Prince Emmanuel Kanu and the President General of Isiama Afaraukwu in a Press briefing urged the Nigerian Police and other security agencies in the state to allow them bury their dead on the 14th of February peacefully as they stated that they insisted that the burial doesn’t have any IPOB colouration.
The Nation gathered Eze I.O. Kanu road had over the years remained untarred expected for a minor grading work that was done on it over the years.
But a release from the Chief Press Secretary to the state governor, Mr. Onyebuchi Ememanka has it that the state government has directed the state Ministry of Works to ensure the immediate reconstruction of the Eze I.O. Kanu road.
Ememanka in the release stated that the construction work on the road was sequel to the request made to the Governor by the President-General of Isiama Afaraukwu Development Union, Chief Ikechukwu Ndubueze, who appealed on behalf of the community for the reconstruction of the road leading to the home of Late Eze Sir I. O. Kanu, Egwukwu II of Afaraukwu .
The release added that the state Ministry of Works is making sure to ensure that the construction work was concluded before February 14, when the remains traditional and his wife would be laid to rest.
