The Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB) say it has closed down 30 Computer Based Test (CBT) registration and Examination Centers in Abia State.
Abia State Jamb Coordinator, Mr. Chidebe Achunine also disclosed that 4 out of 5 persons arrested for various offences during the 2019 JAMB examination in the state have been successfully prosecuted and convicted.
Achunine disclosed this when the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Barr. Nnamdi C. Nwannukwu paid him an official visit at the examination body’s headquarters in Umuahia the Abia State capital.
Those affected according to the JAMB boss were found to be flaunting the rules thereby frustrating the smooth conduct of UTME in the state.
According to him, registration exercise in the state has witnessed extortion- free after weeding out the unscrupulous elements in the business.
This is even as the NSCDC State Commandant has stated the support of the agency to partner with JAMB to ensure that there would be hitch-free conduct of the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculations Examination (UTME) in the state.
He stated that the clampdown on such CBT center has made the registration exercise in the state smooth and extortion- free with the weeding out the unscrupulous elements in the business.
The JAMB State Coordinator charged candidates and parents to report any Center, Cyber Cafe or Bank(s) selling the JAMB form above the government approved price of four thousand , seven hundred Naira ,only (N4, 700.00) to the nearest NSCDC office in the State.
In a release by the Command’s spokesman, DSC Agu E. Ndukwe, the State Commandant earlier in his speech, frowned at the unscrupulous activities of some operators of JAMB accredited CBT Centers and other Sales Outlets who have arbitrarily increased the cost of the JAMB forms above government approved price of four thousand, seven hundred Naira, only ( N4, 700.00) and assured the Coordinator that his Command will work in synergy with JAMB officials in the state to ensure that such perpetrators are brought to book.
Speaking further, the State Commandant said “my Command is ready to give full support to the campaign against all forms of extortion of candidates and examination malpractice as our contribution towards promoting quality education among our youth. We shall also ensure adequate security of lives and Property before, during and after the examination. We will increase surveillance with special attention to all the CBT Centers and other accredited Outlets in the state “.
