Police parade Umuahia couple killers

Abia State Command of the Nigeria Police Force on Tuesday in Umuahia, the Abia State capital paraded twenty persons; 18 males and two females, arrested in Umuahia and Aba, the commercial nerve of the state for various offenses including armed robbery and kidnapping.

Popular among the suspects were a four-man gang of a kidnapping and armed robbery gang that killed a husband and his wife at World Bank Housing Estate in front of their children at the weekend.

An incident our reporter gathered sparked protest among residents of the area who took to the streets of the state capital to demand the arrest of the perpetrators within 24hrs.

Our reporter gathered that the husband and wife who were from Ebonyi identified as Mr. and Mrs. Darlington Uzonwa were killed by the hoodlums after they (hoodlums) suspected that the couple knew one of them.

It was gathered that attempts to beg the gang members by the children of the deceased not to kill their mum after shooting their dad dead fell on deaf ears, as they went ahead to kill the woman before leaving their apartment.

 But the Commissioner of Police in the State, Ene Okon while addressing journalists at the Police Command Headquarters during a press briefing in his office stated that he led the State Puff Adder police team that went after the hoodlums after they got hint of the incident.

According to Okon, the police had already arrested the hoodlums two hours after the incident but however decided to keep it away from the public because they were tracing other members of the gang that was at large.

He disclosed that the group who were from Umuahia are some members of a dreaded robbery gang whose leader identified as “Grave” was killed late last year by the Police after a failed robbery operation in the state capital.

Some of the gang members include Enyinna Asiegbu (Grave second-in-command), Precious Chukwuebuka Okoro, Ogbonna Ifeanyichukwu Justice, Promise Sunday Obilor AKA ‘Esere’, and Emezuo Kingsley alias ‘Pakins’.

Some of the items recovered from the gang include two Pump action guns, two locally made short guns, three live cartridges and one expended cartridge including a sienna SUV with registration Number Abuja RBC 477 RL which they snatched from the owner to carry out the operation.

Amongst those that were also paraded were two kidnapping suspects; David NwokeomaJohn and Chikoaodi Aloh from Umuobiloha Osokwa in Osisioma Local Government Area of the state respectively who kidnapped a Barr. Kenneth Nwuke of Amaede in Amaitolu in Isiala Ngwa South LGA.

An infinix Mobile Phone belonging to the victim was said to have been recovered from them.

Okon said that the suspects as soon as investigation is concluded will be charged to courts for prosecution.
