Killing of couple before children sparks protest

The killing of one Mr. Darlington Uzonwa and his wife at the weekend (Saturday) in the presence of their children has sparked off protests in Umuahia the capital of Abia State.

This is even as residents of World Bank estate Umuahia took to the streets to protest what they described as the spate of insecurity being experienced in Umuahia lately.

The protesters carried placards while marching the streets of Umuahia and called on government to return the World Bank police post that was relocated, one of the protesters who spoke to the News Gazette Online on condition of anonymity said “Since the removal of the police station that insecurity has heightened with robbery, car snatching, burglary, kidnapping etc. becoming an everyday occurrence around world bank estate and the surrounding neighbourhood, and no one is safe anymore”.

Recall that Darlington Uzonwa, popularly known as Ezeogbe’ a poultry farmer and his wife were accosted by suspected armed robbers Saturday night along BCA road in Umuahia while on his routine business of eggs supplies to his customers where they were blocked by armed robbers, robbed and shot to death in the presence of their children.

They called on government and security agencies to strengthen security in Umuahia and pleaded with the commissioner of police and other security agencies to save the town from the menace of armed robbers.
