20-year-old stabs cousin to death over MP3 Music player

A 20-year-old man identified as Gabriel Chimaeze is now cooling off his feet in the custody of the Abia State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) after he reportedly stabbed his relation to death.

The incident, our reporter gathered to have occurred at No. 204 Ikot Ekpene located at Ehere, Ogbor Hill axis of Aba, the commercial nerve of the state.

Sources told our reporter that the incident happened in the early hours of Monday while the brothers were dragging ownership of an MP3 Media Music player.

The suspect and victim; identified as Kelechi Onyekachi both 21 years were apprentices and indigenes of Ibeme community in Obingwa Local Government of the state.

It was gathered that the suspect, Chimaeze had approached the victim, Onyekachi with the claim that the Media Music Player (MP3) the latter had was his and wanted to take it from the deceased.

Onyekachi who lived in the same house with Chimaeze was said to have resisted the suspect’s move which resulted to the two engaging in a fisticuff.

During the fight, the suspect, a mechanic apprentice was reported to have stabbed the deceased who said to be the only son of his parents in the stomach with a knife he reportedly got in the room when he felt that the deceased had over powered him.

The deceased, a wielding apprentice, was said to have collapsed immediately and died on the way as he was being rushed to the hospital.

Reports have it that the suspect was immediately arrested by policemen from Azuka Police Division where he is presently being detained.

The parents of the deceased were said to reside in Calabar, Cross River State, but a source in the area quoting one Promise Sunday said to be roommate to the deceased said that before the incident, there was no love lost between the suspect and the deceased.

“Before today’s (Monday) incident, the two young men who are brothers had always been quarrelling with each boasting of how he would kill the other, in most cases over minor incident.

“The one that took my roommate’s life was over MP3. Onyekachi was having an MP3 Media Music Player and Chimaeze approached him and said it was his and that he would take it back.

“The deceased resisted Chimaeze’s move, fighting ensued and the suspect reached for a knife and stabbed Onyekachi on the stomach. As we were taking him to hospital, he died on the way”, a source who pleaded not to be mentioned quoted the deceased roommate.

Abia command commissioner of police, Ene Okon confirmed the incident when contacted on phone.

Okon said the suspected had been arrested and he had ordered that he should be transferred to the SCID, Umuahia for further investigation and prosecution.
