Umuahia North Council boss pays unscheduled visit to flood ravaged community

The Transition Committee Chairman of Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, Barrister Kelechi Ezechukwu has paid an unscheduled visit to Amaogwugwu Community for an on-the-spot assessment and to ascertain the level of damage suffered by the villagers during a Tuesday flood in the area.

Ezechukwu in the company of the Councilor representing Umuhu ward, Hon. Innocent Iweha and the President-General of the community took time to visit all the families, Churches and businesses affected by the flood.

He expressed shock at the level of damage the flooding had caused to the homes and peoples businesses in Amaogwugwu and promised to reach out to NEMA and SEMA to enable them to assist those affected by the natural disaster and resettle those whose houses were damaged by the flood.

Some of the families affected by the flooding recounted their losses and decried their frustrations since the flooding sacked them from their homes.

Mr. Ogonnaya James lamented that his children have all fallen sick and can no longer go to school because their school uniforms and clothes including that of his wife and himself were all destroyed by the flood.

He called on the council chairman to bring their plight to the government for assistance.

Pastors and members of churches affected by the flood were seen cleaning up and trying to pick the pieces of what was left of their churches after the flood.

One of the pastors; Pastor Chinedu Meribe of ‘Key To Success Ministries International’ called on the government to come to their aid as all their evangelical equipment, Speakers, Musical Equipment, bibles, etc. were destroyed by the flood.

When the council boss visited the oil mill factory that was submerged in the flood and their motorized machines damaged, he expressed shock at the level of damage and assured that the council will assist in making sure that the mill is rehabilitated.

 The council boss made some cash donations to families who were displaced and promised to follow up on their welfare until they are resettled.
