One of the reasons for the institution of the compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Scheme is for national integration.
The scheme also allow Corps members the opportunity to use their period of service to identify and possibly solve a need in their place of primary assignments using personal skills or through collaborative efforts.
Over the years, such government initiative has been able yield positive results as some members of the corps have been able to assist the government meet the needs of their host community(ies) through various means.
Recently a Corps member serving in Akamkpa took the bold step to exemplify true patriotism that has left his name in the sands of time in a government school and the entire Akamkpa clan as he single-handedly built furniture worth millions of naira and donate same to the host community.
A corp member, Stephen Teru on his facebook handle shared:
“To God be the glory! I volunteered my skill to produce desks, tables, benches and shelves for the comfort of over 80 students and pupils of the two public schools (Community Secondary School and St. Georges Primary School) in my host community -Old Netim, Akamkpa LGA., Cross River State.
I must in a very special way appreciate the good people of the community for their support.
Big thanks to my ever supportive principal Mr Emmanuel Eni. Sir, you are too much!
My NYSC Inspector, Mr Ubong Effanga, thank you Sir!
