Abia lawmaker, group call for peace in his constituency following police invasion

The lawmaker representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Ossy Prestige has called for calm following Tuesday’s invasion and burning of homes of residents of Ndiegoro community in Aba South Local Government Area of Abia State.

Prestige who spoke through his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Henry Nna, appealed for calm and pleaded with the Nigerian Police officials to sheath their swords and allow law to take its course.

The lawmaker representing Aba North and South said while the killing of a police officer was condemnable, the alleged action of the police was uncalled for.

According to him, the primary duty of the police was to save lives rather than inflict hardship on the people they were meant to protect.

The lawmaker, who said that he was already out of the country when the news broke, stated that he has canceled his trip and was already on his way back to have on the spot assessment of the incident.

The Abia federal lawmaker also said he had contacted heads of various security agencies to forestall any breakdown of law and that he would do everything within his power to ensure the perpetrators of the heinous act face the full wrath of the law, even as he advised residents of the area to be vigilant and report any suspected sinister movement around them.

In a related development, a southeast group Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) has equally condemned the actions of the Aba Police Officers at the Aba South LGA community.

COSEYL in a release by its National President, Chief Goodluck Egwu Ibem, urged the Inspector General of police, Adamu Muhammed should immediately look into the matter before things get out of hand.
