Abia Police Command arrests two robbery suspects

The Abia State Police Command of the Nigeria Police has reportedly arrested two members of a dreaded armed robbery gang that is terrorizing residents and visitors to Aba, the commercial nerve of the state.

The gang, it was gathered was responsible for the killing of a police officer and the driver of a commercial bus which they the police team was using for patrol at the Ngwa road axis of one of the suburbs in the commercial city.

While credible information has it that the armed robbers made away with about two rifles belonging to members of the patrol team, another police officer was said to have been badly injured and receiving medical; attention in a yet-to-be disclosed private clinic.

According to the sources, the Policemen from Ndiegoro Police Division acting on intelligence visited the Aba South for a patrol, but were unlucky as the gunmen laid siege and took the policemen by surprise, killing one and the driver of the vehicle on the spot, while the other member of the gang escaped with injury.

Residents of Ibadan Street who stated that they have been living in fears alleged that there has been massive arrest by Police in the area since the incident that jolted them took place.

This is even as they appealed to the commissioner of Police and the state governor to call police to order.

When contacted, the State Police Commissioner, CP Ene Okon confirmed the death of the policeman.

According to the Police Boss, the officers were on normal patrol team when they were ambushed by the armed gang and disclosed that they have been able to arrest two of the robbers.

Okon who said that they have launched manhunt on other fleeing members of the gang, added that the two suspects in their custody have been able to make useful statements.

It would be recalled that the command had raised alarm on planned attempted by an armed robbery gang to attack financial institutions in Aba, the commercial nerve of the state and placed N50m reward on any member of the public that would give police useful information on the whereabouts of the hoodlums.
