Nnamdi Okwu Kanu,.

The leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Thursday disclosed what was discussed in a closed door meeting between a delegation led  their leader; Nnamdi Kanu and various United Nations agencies and officials at Geneva, Switzerland on Wednesday.

In a statement released by its Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, some of the issues tabled before the international body in the meeting with the IPOB leadership include incessant killing of IPOB members by Fulani herdsmen, extortion and killing of innocent southeasterners by Nigerian army and police, disfranchising of its people from voting in the last general election and illegal take-over of Igbo properties by the Lagos State government.

Other issues include systematic oppression and economic emasculation of the its people, flagrant contempt of court orders, and incessant abduction and extra judicial killings of IPOB family members … all of which they stated formed the basis of the agitation for the separate state of Biafra.

They also tabled what they described as the unlawful arrest and detention of Omoleye Sowore and the leader of Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) and wife, Sheikh El-Zakzaky including the “ongoing tragic ethnic cleansing in the Middle Belt and plight of Christian minorities in core North.”

Powerful quoting Kanu while addressing IPOB members that came to show solidarity with him, said “Mazi Nnamdi presented Biafra plight to the United Nations officials, demanding urgent action against the numerous rights abuses inflicted daily upon Biafrans and the need to support the undeniable right of Biafrans to self-determination as enshrined in law, statute and various UN conventions.

“The case of RUGA settlement by stealth was also raised and the august body was left in doubt that Biafrans will never allow Fulani terror settlements in Biafraland.

“Every issue concerning our people is now before the various arms and agencies of the United Nations. Our case will no longer be ignored.

“Every issue concerning our people as mentioned by Kanu ranges from the incessant killing of Biafrans in their own land by terrorist Fulani herdsmen, extortion and killing of Biafran motorcyclists and commercial drivers by Nigerian army and police over refusal to give #50 bribery, killing of Biafrans in the Northern hemisphere by Islamic extremists, disfranchising Biafrans in the western part of the country as well as in the North, illegal take-over of Biafrans’ property by Lagos State government, systematic oppression and economic emasculation of the Biafran, forceful Islamization of the country as currently constituted, illegal detention of unarmed agitators, flagrant contempt of court orders, and  incessant abduction and extra judicial killings of IPOB family members … all of which form the basis of the agitation for the separate state of Biafra which, in earnest, was existing before the Lugardian amalgamation of 1914.

“Exploiting the rights of indigenous people to self-determination as provided by the UN charter 2007, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in his usual charismatic poise has conscientiously pursued freedom for the oppressed people of Biafra. Presenting the aforementioned matters to the UN with, presumably offers for a better deal than the failed Nigerian State can strike, Kanu and crew seem to have wrecked the Nigerian boat. Certainly he must have gotten reassuring promises to have told his followers that they will no longer be ignored.

“He also raised the issue of the continued illegal detention of Omoleye Sowore, the relentless persecution of the members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria led by Sheikh El-Zakzaky, ongoing tragic ethnic cleansing in the Middle Belt and plight of Christian minorities in core North. From every indication there is palpable air of assurance that all the years of neglect of Biafra as a global issue requiring serious attention is now a thing of the past.”
