A reckless driver whose name is yet-to-be ascertained has reportedly killed a student of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba situated at the heart of the commercial nerve of the state.
This is even as another student that was in the company of the dead student was said to have been battling for survival in one of the private hospitals in the city.
The whereabouts of the driver of the Sienna SUV was yet unknown, but information has it that the Abayi Police Division had already commenced investigation into the matter.
The deceased and another student were simply identified as Solomon and Alfred from Microbiology of the polytechnic.
Information has it that the deceased and the other colleague were said to have been hit by a careless driver car, carrying bread along Umuocham road by Sweet restaurant in Osisioma Local Government Area.
While the body of the deceased was said to have been taken to the morgue, Alfred was said to have been taken to a nearby private hospital on Umuocham road for medical attention.
Reports at the private hospital have it that the premise of the health facility was filed with students of the polytechnic who on hearing the bad news came to the hospital to show solidarity with their colleague.
The Ag. rector Prof. Ezionye Eboh and the Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Chinyere Eze could not be reached for comments, but sources within the school have it that colleagues of the Solomon and Alfred on hearing the news dressed in black attire to mourn their late colleague.
They said that they were optimistic that Alfred would make it as workers at the health facility were said to be rallying round to give the injured student the best treatment.
The Obehie Area Commander, under whose jurisdiction the incident happened could not be reached at the time of filing this report, but a senior police officer in Aba confirmed the story and added that they have commenced investigation into the matter.
