ABIA 2023: THE MORNING AFTER AND RETURN OF POLITICAL MARAUDERS.
By Prince Clinton Uba
Just few weeks after the 9th March gubernatorial elections across the country, insinuations are rife that the race for 2023 had already begun.
Here in Abia, the argument revolve around where the next Governor of Abia state should come from in 2023.
While some argue that since all the three Senatorial zones seem to have taken a shot at the number one seat, it could as well start from any zone as there are no signed documents of zoning methodology.
Others seem to differ, with reference to Abia Charter of Equity which recognises two zone; old Bende and Ukwa Ngwa, adding that, since old Bende had an uninterrupted 16 years, equity can only be seen as being legitimately entrenched in Abia state if Ukwa Ngwa zone can also complete 16 years. Even as others are of the opinion that zoning is primordial and should be jettisoned for merit, not clannish political inclination.
While those thought provoking arguments have their merits and demerits, it is worthy to note that; it is rather too early in the morning to start talking about 2023. For God’s sake, this is 2019, not even 2021?
Again, the name of Mr. Obinna Oriaku, the current Honourable Commissioner for finance has constantly been mentioned by the promoters of 2023.
Without any iota of doubt, Mr. Oriaku the ebullient Ngwa born financial expert has all it takes to occupy the number one seat. He has the intellectual capacity, the administrative acumen, the candour, panache, the temperament, the sagacity, the vibrancy and iron cast interpersonal relationship.
However, i don’t think the Owerrinta born financial czar has told anyone either in a meeting or jokes, that he has any political ambition.
Therefore, i smell blackmail and it may not be out of place to submit that, mischief makers and professional political marauders are after his job.
Recall in 2016, some people started flying the rumour that the then Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martins Azubuike was nursing the ambition to run for Abia Central Senatorial seat, occupied by Sen. TA Orji and before any damage control mechanism could be put in place, he was shoved aside as the first Speaker of Abia 6th Assembly and the rest is history.
Mr. Obinna Oriaku – shine your eyes and beware of political invaders !!!.
