Abia marks 2019 Armed Forces Remembrance Day

As part of the nationwide yearly ritual of remembrance every 15 January for members of the armed forces who paid the Supreme sacrifice in the course of defending the country.

The Abia State 2019 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Parade and wreath laying ceremony took place at the Abia State Cenotaph Umuahia.

It involved a static parade by members of the armed forces drawn from the 14 Brigade Ohafia and the Nigerian Navy College of Logistics Owerinta inspected by the deputy Gov, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu who represented the Gov, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, highpoint was the wreath laying ceremony by the rep of the Governor, thereafter the Comd 14 Brigade Brig Gen AK Ibrahim, Commandant Naval College , CP Abia State, Chris Ezike, Chief Judge Abia State, former Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen OA Ihejirika Rtd, traditional rulers among others.

Thereafter prayers from the two major religions were offered for the souls of the departed. pigeons were then released to symbolize peace and unity.

In his speech, Gov Ikpeazu paid tribute to the gallantry of the Nigerian Armed forces especially in the counter insurgency operations in the north east but also in other places across the country and said the govt will continue to partner with the military.

He urged those that will find themselves on security duties during the election to be professional and neutral in order to maintain the confidence the people have in them.
