The much awaited Bet9ja Super 8 football game organized by the
Nigeria National League (NNL) kicked off on Sunday (yesterday) at the
Enyimba International Stadium, Aba Abia State.
Though
it witnessed low turnout apparently because many residents of the
sports loving city were yet to return from their respective villages
for the Christmas festivities.
The
matches however lived to its hype as the competing teams gave in their
best to show cause on why they should be part of the competition and
also qualify to play in the NPL (Nigeria Premier League) in the coming
season.
Four games were played at the Enyimba Stadium between the eight participating teams.
The
first match between Gombe United and Kogi United ended in a 1-1 draw as
players of the two teams scored at 2nd and 62nd minutes respectively.
While Joseph Onoja scored for Gombe United, Ibrahim Enesi equalised for Kogi United.
The
Second game between Delta Force and Bendel Insurance officiated by
Bashir Salisu from Kano State saw Bendel Insurance trashing Delta Force
by 3-0.
While the first goal
scored by Charles Omokaro at the 12th minute, Michael Enaruna scored on
the 15th minute through a freekick as Emmanuel Nwangboje sealed victory
for the Bendel Insurance at the 69th minute.
Players
of Delta Force however threatened to leave the pitch when their player;
Eze Nduka was red carded on the 32nd minute, a decision that didn’t go
down well with them.
Coach
Chukwuma Agbo of Delta Force in an interview after the match said it was
one of the worst matches that his team has played since he resumed as
the coach of the team.
“We still
have two matches, our destiny is still in our hands. If we can get six
points out of the two matches, we may still qualify.
“We will go back and correct our mistakes, we don’t need to drop any point again.
“On
the red card given to one of my players, I don’t complain about
referees, but the red card was uncalled for. You can go and take a look
at film again, it was uncalled for. When you are losing two zero and a
red card given to you when you are trying to come up, it depletes your
team and dampen your moral.
“But apart from the red card, the officiating is above average.”
Bendel Insurance coach, Baldwin Bazuaye (MON) he attributed their win to good rest and building the psychology of the players
Bazuaye said fans of the team should look forward to good game, discipline and winning their future games.
