Former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu on his return to Nigeria from Germany after a successful surgery has been playing host to business associates and political allies in Abia and the world at large with his Asokoro residence becoming Mecca of some sort.
One of such persons who have found time to come and facilitate with Kalu in recent times, is the Deputy Senate President (DSP), Ike Ekweremadu who is a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
But Ekweremadu’s visit to Kalu’s Asokoro residence has sparked off once again speculations that Ekweremadu may be defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Recall that recently Ekweremadu was touted to have nurtured defecting to APC from PDP after it was reported in some quarters that he and other members of the party from the southeast were annoyed over the inability of the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar to consult them before pick his vice and former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi.
While the issue of Ekweremadu’s planned defection is about to die down, some people around the corridors at the weekend gave much meaning to Ekweremadu’s visit to Kalu’s residence where they were seeing hugging each other which was followed by a tweet from Kalu on his official handle.
While issues discussed by the Abia State former governor and the Enugu State born politician is yet-to-be made public, many had speculated that the two SouthEast political big weights couldn’t have ended their discussions without talking about the deputy Senate President’s plans to join the APC.
However, political watchers have advised Ekweremadu to look before he leap even as they alleged that Ekweremadu may be eyeing the Senate President’s seat in 2019 which this medium understand former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio is eyeing.
The political watchers also warned that Ekweremadu may lose his seat if he joins APC before the 2019 general election as they stated that Enugu State where Ekweremadu comes from is a PDP state.
