Chukuwudi Ephraim Umuahia- There was massive jubilation among the rank and file of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Abia State Command following the redeployment of immediate past Commissioner of Police (CP), Anthony M. Ogbizi.

Ogbizi who is reportedly being transferred to Force Headquarters as CP Community Policing is being replaced by former CP Imo State, Chris Ezike who until the time of the redeployment was CP Community Policing, Force Headquarters.

Ogbizi who came to the state from Lagos State as CP Railway, took over mantle of leadership from his predecessor, CP Adeleye Oyebade that equally succeeded him as Railway CP about one year two months ago.

Our reporter reports that both senior and junior police officers under Abia Command were happy when the news about Ogbizi’s transfer out of the command broke to them Monday morning.

According to some of the police personnel in the command who pleaded not to be mentioned, Ogbizi’s transfer is a huge relief for them.

They said that the transfer of Ogbizi marks an end to the era of high handedness in the command and “incessant punitive transfer” of personnel under the command.

“Some officers who were due for promotion that if not the intervention of the press who helped us to let the world know that our Annual Performance Evaluation Report (APER) Forms were with the CP when other states have submitted their own to the Force Headquarters, would have missed the opportunity.

“The promotion is meant for those confirmed as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in 2014, promoted as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in 2015 and those promoted to Superintendent of Police (SP) in 2014 respectively.

“Immediately the news broke, there was massive transfer of police officers especially in Aba. We see such transfer as a punitive. Because we learnt that he wasn’t happy with the report.

“Under the administration of Ogbizi, queries were being issued at will, sometimes for things that doesn’t warrant query. We are happy that we are having a new CP whom we believe has what it takes to manage the command effectively.”

  1. Abia have faced quite a lot from the hand of all these trigger friendly officers, It is heartbreaking that these are happening in such times when they are supposed to protect the lives of citizens as there are more death of people killed by police than the ones covid 19 killed. God will help us o. Congratulations to the new CP…Just hoping that God will justify all these with her appearing. Abia keeps getting better, we are God’s own state.
