Ogah emerges Abia APC guber candidate

The President/CEO of Masters Energy, Dr. Uche Ogah on Wednesday morning emerged as the gubernatorial flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of the Abia State in the just concluded guber primary in the state under the supervision of former Edo House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. David Iyoha led committee.

 

Iyoha declared Ogah the winner of the direct primary at about 4:30am with a total score of 86, 875 votes while a former speaker of the state and member representing Isiala North State Constituency at the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martins Azubuike came close with 10, 889 votes.

 

The likes of Comrade Chris Akomas, High Chief Ikechi Emenike, Ambassador Okey Emuchay, Sir Friday Nwosu and Prince Paul Ikonne got 2, 123, 455, 1,270, 3, 529 and 999 votes respectively.

It could be recalled that some of the aspirants from Ngwa extraction had expressed their lack of trust and confidence on the Iyoha led executive. This is even as they alleged that the committee have been compromised and induced with a cash gift to influence the outcome of the result of the primary which Iyoha denied in an interview.

In his speech before declaring Ogah the elected APC Abia 2019 gubernatorial contest, Iyoha commended the Adams Oshiomhole led leadership for giving the people at the grassroots the opportunity of choosing who represents them in various elective positions in the state and at the national level.

Iyoha who commended the level of maturity exhibited by the aspirants, expressed his gratitude to the Abia State Police Command and other Sister agencies in the state in ensuring that there was peaceful atmosphere, before, during and after the gubernatorial primary.

 

In his the winner of the exercise; Ogah said that he was happy that the people overwhelmly voted for him and stated that the victory was a step ahead of the victory of the party at the poll come 2019.

 

Ogah further extend his hands of fellowship to other aspirants, noting that there was no victor, no vanquish in the contest and therefore called for the support of all to unseating the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led government in the state.

He said, ” It is God  that made my victory possible some people thought it would be impossible but God has made it come to pass.

“I want to thank all the people that has been there for me, my family both immediate and extended.

“Today the contest has come to an end and there is no gain saying that everyone that contested was qualified to contest. They are all noble men but I’m extending a hand of fellowship to all of them for us to work.

“Our victory today belongs to the people of Abia State, because there is nothing you can do to a man whose time has come and the time is now. I believe that there is nothing any one can do to stop the will of the people.

“The will of the people is a strong Army and our party has demonstrated that the will of the people is stronger than any other systems of electing representatives.

“I can say that the APC is a great party, a party that has integrity
and openness in all its process.
We have seen it today and there will be joy everywhere because the time for Abia to rejoice has come.”

Also speaking, the chairman of the party, Hon. Donatus Nwankpa thanked his members for coming out to participate in the exercise, stressing that the choice of direct primary in the state is to allow the people make the choice of their leaders.

According to Nwankpa, the work has just begun and charged the party faithful across the state to ensure that they mobilized support for the elected guber candidate and others that would be elected in subsequently as the march to wrestle power from the PDP government in the state has just begun.
