APC guber primaries update: results yet to arrive, as Ogah leads in Umuahia North and South

Results for the Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primaries held across the 17 local government areas of the state is yet to arrive the state secretariat which will serve as the final collation center for the contest and where the result of the exercise is expected to be announced.

At the time of filing the reporter, the leader of the election committee, Rt. Hon. David Iyoha and his members arrived the secretariat at exactly 8pm in readiness of collation of results from the 17 local governments where the exercise held.

Meanwhile, our reporter who monitored the exercise in some wards Umuahia North and Local governments report that the exercise was peaceful, though respondents lament late arrival of materials at various polling units.

According to some of them, the direct primary has given people at the grassroots the opportunity in choosing who their leader becomes unlike in the past where the power of electing the flag bearers of the is vested in the hands of a few who think for self than the interest of the majority. This is even as they lauded the Comrade Adams Oshiomhole led leadership for such initiative.

At Ndume ward where a total of 1633 registered APC voters, Dr. Uche Sampson Ogah got 1630 votes, Sir Friday Nwosu got 0 votes, Amb Okey Emuchay-0 Comrade Chris Akomas-1, High Chief Ikechi Emenike-0, Paul Ikonne-0 and Rt. Hon Martins Azubuike-2 votes respectively.

The returning officer, Nnamdi Ohaeri, announcing the Ogah as the winner of the ward said that Ogah pooled a total of 1630 votes.

At Urban ward 1, Ndagbo Afaraukwu in Umuahia North LGA, Rt. Hon Azubuike scored 25 votes, Ikechi Emenike-8, Chris Akomas-12, Pice Paul Ikonne-16, Friday Nwosu-5 and Ogah-1227 votes respectively.

Results from other centers are still being expected at the time of this report.

Meanwhile, a chieftain of the party, senator Chris Adighije in an interview described the exercise as smooth, stressing that the party has become formidable and strong in the state.

Adighije while reacting to the protest in the morning by the Ngwa aspirants who had expressed doubt over the credibility of the committee said that the party would be setting up internal mechanism to reconcile aggrieved members of the party.

According to him, the party is on the march towards wrestling power from the hands of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government in the state, stressing that PDP is a “low hanging tree waiting to be Plock” by the APC.

He further commended the Iyoha led committee, security agents for their professionalism and ensuring that the exercise was peaceful.
