Official: Abia APC guber primaries to hold Tuesday Oct.2

The chairman Adams Oshiomhole inaugurated committee for Abia State All Progressives Congress gubernatorial primaries Rt. Hon. David Iyoha on Monday announced the postponement of the party’s gubernatorial primaries in the state to Tuesday October, 2.

 

It could be recalled that the election originally scheduled to hold on September 30 was pushed to Monday October 1.

 

Stating reasons for the postponement after a meeting with major stakeholders and aspirants for elective positions in the state at the APC party secretariat on Azikiwe by Adelabu Street, Umuahia, the state capital said that the delay was as a result of logistics delay and late arrival of materials.

He said that it was critical that the committee meet with the aspirants and stakeholders in order to ensure a free and fair process.

 

The committee chairman who was in the company of Nasiru Degiri (secretary), Hon. Ibrahim Gambo, Hon. Musa Shelleng and Hon. Atan Amina Mohammed  stated that the choice for direct primaries as approved by the national leadership of the party was to give the people at the grassroots the opportunity to participate and choose who becomes their leader. This is as he disclosed that they have come with ballot boxes and the updated register of the party to ensure that the process was in line with the stipulations of the party.

According to Iyoha, distribution of sensitive and other elective materials would be starting by 6am while accreditation and voting starts by 7am in centers within the state capital and 8am for places at the hinterlands.

 

While disclosing that the party secretariat would be the final place for collation of results, Iyoha urged members to ensure that they were accredited and voted as well before leaving the voting centers.

 

Iyoha promising a free and fair process, urged aspirants and their supporters to display maturity and fair play, stressing that they should ensure that there was peace before, during and after the election.

In separate interviews, some of the aspirants and party stakeholders including Dr. Uche Ogah, Friday Nwosu, Sir Marc Wabara, Hon. Nkiruka Onyejiocha all expressed confidence in the committee and hope that the candidate that would emerge tomorrow to fly the flag of the party in 2019 would be produced through a free and fair process. This is even as they were optimistic that APC would be producing the governor of the state come 2019.
