Abia Senatorial Candidate woos support of Ukwa electorate

An Abia South senatorial aspirant for 2019 general election, under the platform of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, (APGA) in Abia South, Chief Chris Nkwonta, has warned the people of Ukwa East and Ukwa West council areas against sabotaging their sons and daughters aspiring for elective positions.

This is even as he enjoined them to join hands and work towards producing the next senator to represent the zone at the National Assembly.

Nkwonta, who stated this while reacting to a communiqué signed by over 50 stakeholders of the two council areas, demanding that the Abia South senatorial position should be zoned to the Ukwa bloc, explained that most of the signatories to the communiqué worked against Ukwa bloc producing the senator for the zone during the 2015 election.

The APGA chieftain also alleged that some of the signatories to the communiqué stated that it was not yet the turn of the Ukwa bloc to produce a senator and commended them for choosing to stand for equity for the 2019 election.

“Where is the place of the Ukwa man in the politics of Abia and Nigeria? We are nowhere today. I’m glad that Ukwa people have woken from their slumber to demand their right to the senatorial position. In 2015, they said I was wrong and driven by inordinate ambition when I led efforts to redress this great injustice against Ukwa bloc.

“I was called names. Before the elections, a meeting was held by some of Ukwa people to map out strategies on how to stop me who was the only candidate from Ukwa. Thank God, my people have now seen what I saw since 2014.

“It is a great injustice for the Ngwa people to produce the governor and the senator representing Abia South while nothing for their Ukwa bloc. Because we allowed this great injustice in 2015, our conquerors believe we will also allow it in 2019. It is unjust for a brother to seize what belongs to two brothers for himself alone.

“Most of these signatories to this communiqué worked against me as the APGA senatorial candidate in the 2015 election even the Ngwa bloc produced the governor and senator.

“They said it is not our turn, party is supreme, and party has spoken. Now that we have woken up from our slumber, I hope and pray that politics of stomach infrastructure will not derail us again.”

Nkwonta lamented that the Ukwa people risk political extinction in Nigeria if it fails to produce the next senator to represent Abia south zone.
