One person identified as Saviour has reportedly lost his life in a ghastly auto accident that occurred on popular Waterside Bridge along Aba-Ikot Ekpene Expressway, off Ogbor Hill Aba, Abia State.
While Saviour whom many said to come from Akwa Ibom and also identified as a job man at a popular market; Ahia Udele housing Aba slaughter died on the spot, other passengers in a commercial bus with registration Number Anambra State JJT 281 ZH that collided with a truck heading into the commercial town escaped death by the whiskers.
Sources at the slaughter house disclosed that the truck carrying bags of rice failed break while the driver was descending the Ogbor Hill Bridge.
According eyewitnesses, the driver of the truck did all he could to ensure that he controlled and stir the truck to safety before it unfortunately rammed into the commercial bus whose driver was driving against traffic.
An eyewitness who simply gave his name as George said “the truck driver who was carrying rice while climbing down the Ogbor Hill Bridge lost control of his car when he noticed that the car has failed break.
“He did all he could to control the car but while he was doing that, the driver of the bus was coming from opposite direction; he was driving against traffic and because the main road was tight, he couldn’t have done anything to reverse his car.
“People tried calling Saviour and before he could know what was happening, the truck crushed him and the car.”
Our reporter learnt that the situation caused pandemonium as colleagues of the deceased, took to the road to protest the killing.
The situation caused gridlock on the road for several hours before the arrival of some security agencies that assisted to ensure that the body of the deceased was taken away to the mortuary.
Some respondents also accused some personnel of security agencies and members of the public of cashing into the ugly incident and made away with uncountable bags of rice, a situation many described as appalling.
Other respondents used the opportunity to re-echo the call for an inter-change, stressing that the rate of accident and lives lost on the bridge calls for an inter-change to avoid unwarranted death of innocent citizens.
