All roads leads to Igbere in Bende local government area of Abia State as former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State and National level barring any later changes will today, Thursday, at Camp Neya in Igbere, his hometown declare publicly his intention to run for the Abia North Senatorial District election come 2019.
Kalu also known as “mmiri yiri enyi” I of Igbo land who had on two various occasions contested and lost the same position would be squaring up again against incumbent Senator Mao Ohuabunwa of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), popularly as “follow better” amongst his supporters and PDP faithful.
Recall that in 2015 election many had expected Kalu who contested under the platform of APC to win especially with his growing popularity and support he garnered from the people of Abia North while he toured the senatorial zone soliciting for their votes.
But Kalu in a meeting with some APC stakeholders in the state attributed his loss to Ohuabunwa in 2015 and 2011 to the powers that be in the state as it were who used both state and federal might to ensure that he lost the election.
The Abia State Governor known amongst Abians and business associates as ‘OUK’ maintained that he won the election in a clean sweep and accused INEC staff of collaborating with the powers that be in the state to deny him victory. This is even as he remained hopeful that the votes of Abians and the Abia Norths in particular would count in 2019 election.
The formal declaration of Kalu and the leader of the party in the state for Abia North Senatorial position in Igbere, Bende local government area is expected to attract dignitaries from all walks of life and party stalwarts in the state and Southeast in general.
