Atiku promises to nip Boko Haram activities in board if elected president

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has promised Nigerians especially those living in the Northeast that his administration if elected the president of the country come 2019 would end the persistent attack in the region by the Boko Haram militia.

Recall that the activities of the insurgent group which began at the twilight of President Olusegun Obasanjo’s regime have continued to carry out their attacks in different parts of the country, killing innocent Nigerians. This is even as the activities of militia herdsmen is becoming worrisome and challenging for security agencies to nip in the bud.

Atiku, who is touring different parts of the country seeking for support over his presidential bid, stated this while addressing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters at the Forshams Hall, Maiduguri, Borno State.

The ex- Vice President who promised to deal with insurgency within the shortest of times if elected president lamented that nine years after Boko Haram started their activities in the region, government especially at the federal level is yet to find a lasting solution or nip the activities of the group in the board.

In the words of Atiku “Nigeria ended her civil war in only two- and- half years despite the thick forests in the South East. I wonder why the war against insurgency took us nine years.  There must be something wrong somewhere.

“If elected I will not allow any commander to tell me stories. We must end insurgency within the shortest possible time because the insurgency has crippled everything in the North East.”
