One of the newest members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that defected from their former party Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to APC, Barr. Friday Nwosu has reportedly begun consultation with stakeholders of the party as 2019 election draw nearer.

Sources in the party who confided on infonet9ja.com disclosed that the ongoing consultation by the 2014 PDP governorship primaries aspirant was not unconnected with his 2019 governorship ambition. This is even as the Ngwa Bloc by “equity” is ceded to produce the governor of the state before it moves to other blocs of Abia North and Abia Central respectively.

According to the sources who described Nwosu as a “principled” man over his inability to compromise and back out from the alleged tax forgery case against the incumbent Gov. of the state, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu said that the Abuja based lawyer would have the former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martins Azubuike, former Deputy Gov. of Abia State, Comrade Chris Akomas, Chief Nyerere Chinenye Anyim, Senator Bob Nwannunu who are also of the Abia South stock to battle with.

Nwosu, it was gathered paid a visit to one of the APC chieftains and member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) Prince Benjamin Apugo at his Nkata-Ibeku country home where they held private discussions.

Sources at the meeting however disclosed that Apugo at the meeting told Nwosu the party does not indulge in impunity and imposition of candidates and assured him that party’s primaries which would be coming up later this year would be free and fair.

“Far as we are concerning, our primaries will be free and fair to everybody that wants to contest. And another one is that nobody will play a double game in our primaries. It will be straight. You know I am there so, nobody will try it,” Apugo was reported to have told Nwosu.

it was learnt that Apugo told Nwosu that he did well by dumping the PDP which he accused of lacking internal democracy to join his  party and expressed hope that more people to come in.

“We are asking more people to join APC because it is the only party that will allow the Igbo to be the president of this country in 2023 and that is why many of us are there.”

On the rumour making the rounds that he has endorsed Nwosu for the governorship position in Abia state, Apugo reportedly said, “He has not even declared interest to the party so; I don’t have to say anything concerning him about that. Until he declares and after the assessment of him including others too, if he is the person that we take the mantle, that is after they must have gone through primaries then we will know.”

Apugo who was said to have accused some of those jostling for the governorship seat of APC in the state of being sponsored by the PDP in order to destabilize the party said “It is true, I cannot deny it, but you see those people most of them are of no consequence. If the PDP thinks that Abia people will vote for them again, they are wasting their time. What will they vote for them for?

“What single thing have they done? In fact, most of the roads being rehabilitated in the state are all Federal Government projects, they are being done by NDDC with the express approval of Mr. President.”

According to the sources, Nwosu had earlier told Apugo that he came to formerly inform their political leader that he has joined the APC having in his words, “seen a lot of impunity in PDP and they don’t want to change.

“I left PDP for good and the new party I am a member now will show a difference. In few weeks to come, the difference will be clear that Abia people have moved from PDP to APC. Abia people don’t believe in noise making opposition. We believe in negotiation with the powers that be for the benefit of the state and not opposition where you are confusing people, you are here stealing their money.”

Nwosu said although he has not given up on his governorship ambition, but that was not his reason of visiting the BoT member, saying at the appropriate time, he would make his stand on the issue public.
