Imo Airport shutdown as crowd welcomes Kalu

The premises of  late Sam Mbakwe International Airport, Imo state witnessed unprecedented crowd of Abians and easterners that thronged the airport to welcome a chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) and the former governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu on Friday, June, 29, 2018.

Kalu was returning to the Eastern part of the country and Abia State in particular after his prolonged absence in the east.

Kalu who landed at about 4pm with his private jet (N7 OUK) was shocked to see the crowd he later learnt heard of his return and decided to come and welcome him, defying the heavy downpour.

Among the crowd at the airport to welcome Dr. Kalu include Imo, Abia and Rivers APC bigwigs, former senators, business associates, supporters and loyalists.

Sources close to the former governor stated that he had in the past couple of months been on a tour across the country building bridges of peaceful coexistence and national cohesion and preaching the gospel of religious tolerance.

It was learnt that while Kalu was going round the country building bridges, his foundation, Orji Kalu Foundation was busy disbursing interest free loan to petty traders and less privilege across the country.

The former governor of Abia state and his entourage later headed to his home town Igbere in Bende local government Abia state.
