It was a shocking moment and scene to behold in Umuahia, the State capital as youths living at World Bank area of the state reportedly discovered decomposing corpse of a yet-to-be identified person during a raid of abandoned estate.
The corpse it was learnt was recovered in one of the buildings of an abandoned estate located at the former Timer site off Aba road, Umuahia which has been a safe haven for criminals and hoodlums.
The personnel, according to sources at the state capital arrested some suspected hoodlums and also recovered phones, passports, ATM cards among other items which are suspected to belong to their victims.
It was gathered that the abandoned estate is regarded to be dreaded, as many unsuspecting members of the public have one ugly story to tell about the estate.
A source who spoke to our reporter anonymously said that the residents of the area, having gotten tired of the activities of the growing insecurity; burglary, car theft, armed robbery, snatching of handsets and dispossessing of valuables by suspected hoodlums habouring in the estate.
Youths in the area were said to have summoned courage to storm the estate on Tuesday morning as early as 7am to evict the occupants of the estate.
The source said that it while the youths were ransacking the estate that they discovered a decomposing body in one of the buildings and alerted the World Bank Police Division subsequently.
The police operatives led by their Division Police Officer, stormed the area and were shocked with what they saw.
The source stated that the DPO, after commending the courage of the youths, packed some of the hoodlums into their van and left for their station where it is expected that they (suspects) would be questioned for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Efforts to reach the Abia State Police Command spokesman, DSP Geoffrey Ogbonna for comments failed as he could not take or return calls to his number by our reporter. This is even as he is yet to reply a text message sent to his phone until the time of this report.

But in a text message by the Commissioner of Police, CP Michael Ogbizi, he said “meet the Area Commander (Umuahia) for true picture of the incident”.
